Microbiome

Home / Microbiome

Introduction:

The microbiota (which is a collection of bacteria, archaea, eukaryotes, and viruses) interact with the host organism and has an impact on many aspects of human and environmental health. The microbiome (also referred to as the metagenome) comprises all the genetic material within a microbiota. At the College of Medicine, we explore the interaction of the microbiota with the human host and effect on human health. Currently we are working on two projects:

Projects (In progress):

(Postdoc project) Investigating the effect of the Dyad interventions on Malawian infant gut microbiota and subsequent infant outcomes (growth, development, morbidity and inflammation)

( PhD project) Investigating the role of gut microbiota in resistance to Salmonella colonization and subsequent acquisition of antibody immunity in Malawian children.
